Here are just a few of the activities that I have created for use in ESL classrooms. I have included them as .PDFs with a brief description of each. I have also linked some web-based ESL resources. Enjoy!
1.) I designed this reading and writing lesson plan to help with more complicated breakdowns of sentence structure with advanced ESL students.
2.) CHABINGO! This vocabulary activity is a fun game of my own design. It can be altered for any ELL level.
3.) For pronunciation, I specially designed this activity to assist students with flow and cadence of English. The sentences can be as silly or wacky as I want to keep the students engaged and having fun.
Some helpful ESL Teaching resources:
Etymonline is an online etymology dictionary designed to find the origin, context, and usage of any English word that exists. This is a helpful resource for both teachers and students when expanding vocabulary and reading texts with unfamiliar words or words used in unfamiliar contexts. For students, this can be an invaluable synonym finder, word origin source, and dictionary. For teachers, this website can aid in the explanation of word usage, conjugation, and lexicon expansion in the classroom.
This site contains an alphabetized extensive list of random questions/conversation starters that teachers can use in the classroom to get the students talking. For Communicative Language Teaching this is an excellent resource that can be used to make many different kinds of activities, icebreakers, or other classroom conversations. I like how they are all sorted into their respective categories for ease of navigation. This would be a god resource to just have bookmarked, especially if you tend to create a lot of your own activities and curriculum.
https://www.eslprintables.com/
ESL Printables is an ESL online Library that contains thousands of worksheets, presentations and activities for ESL learners. To join, you have to submit some of your own unique activities and worksheets. It’s essentially a trading platform for teachers to share classroom materials they have created. I like that you have to contribute to be a part, because it ensures that the catalog will only grow with every new user and not stagnate. There are new teaching ideas every day and I believe that it’s important to share knowledge.
